Non-destructive dendrochronology with X-ray computed tomography: The influence of different conservation methods for waterlogged archaeological wood

چکیده

In this study, the influence of different conservation methods for waterlogged archaeological wood (WAW) on non-destructive dendrochronological dating by micro-computed tomography (µCT) was evaluated. For purpose, samples species were conserved using following methods: alcohol-ether-resin, Kauramin 800®, lactitol/trehalose, saccharose, silicone oil and polyethylene glycol (PEG) treatments with subsequent freeze-drying. The tree ring measurements all in digital µCT data compared an analog linear measuring table terms total number rings per sample mean width. year-to-year width agreed very well overall corresponding microscopic measurements. Comparison of phase contrast X-ray computed tomography methods for non-destructive testing of materials

Currently the basis for standard X-ray computed tomography (CT) is absorption. A volumetric map of a specimen in three dimensions is generated from a set of absorption radiographs. The contrast of details strongly depends on a difference in absorption coefficient between the detail and the environment. However, when the absorption difference is low, sufficient contrast for a good quality X-ray ...

X-ray computed tomography.

X-ray computed tomography (CT), introduced into clinical practice in 1972, was the first of the modern slice-imaging modalities. To reconstruct images mathematically from measured data and to display and to archive them in digital form was a novelty then and is commonplace today. CT has shown a steady upward trend with respect to technology, performance and clinical use independent of predictio...
